This site has seen a lot of changes since I first started it in March 2000, just as I have. It started out as Drewslair.com, a purely personal website where I talked about some of my tech work and did a bit of commentary here and there. Over the past 25 years, I’ve changed the primary domain a couple of times (Drewslair.com is still valid but redirects.). I started designing it with FrontPage 98 and then created an ASP.NET site before settling on WordPress in 2014. Most importantly, the site’s function has changed; it went from personal site to professional profile to business site as my career progressed.
Now, I’m changing focus again and the site is changing with me.
I still love technology but I don’t always love where it’s going. Just today, someone asked me about how A.I. is taking over and I told them that it’s thrown everything up in the air and we’re still waiting to see where it all comes down. The prospects are often not encouraging. I’ve talked to other veteran I.T. professionals who have decided to hasten their retirements from the field when faced with challenges not only from A.I. but also the other realities of today’s technology landscape. There comes a time for everyone to realize when their time in a place is over and they need to move on.
Comeau Software Solutions will continue, I will continue to offer consulting services as needed and write about technology but the focus will change, along with the site’s name and domain. I want Life Beyond Tech to focus on technology solutions and educational resources that prioritize humans over the machine and natural abilities over artificial intelligence.
A.I., when used well, can be a great assistant. The technology is here to stay and I want to help visitors to this site find the best of it. Technology is supposed to serve people rather than the other way around. It is supposed to make us more capable, not less. It’s supposed to increase our abilities, not make us dependent. I want the information and resources on this site to reflect those values. While I use A.I. tools, I’m continuing my commitment to quality, human-generated content.
Keeping this as a business site over the last several years has also been very limiting. There have been other, non-technical, subjects I’ve wanted to write about, including some of the many books on my reading list and other areas of study, but they didn’t fit and I could never justify running a second website. I want to start adding them here and sharing them with others.
I hope to offer a lot of quality, beneficial content in the year to come and I hope you’ll bookmark the site or sign up for my newsletter to follow along with my exploration of new ideas. You can also find my YouTube channel where I will continue to upload new videos.
I wish you all the best in 2026!
